Binance opens Capital Connect to high-net-worth investors

Summary:
  • Binance is letting wealthy individuals compare and invest in pro strategies on Capital Connect, a marketplace previously limited to institutions.
  • Eligibility includes meeting financial criteria such as having at least $1 million in assets.
  • As of September, the lineup had 212 portfolios run by 77 professional trading teams, up from 106 portfolios across 35 teams in May.

What changed and why it matters

Binance wants to court the same deep-pocketed crowd traditional finance has chased for decades. The company is now letting qualified individual investors use Capital Connect to evaluate and allocate to professional trading strategies. Individual investors "want access to Capital Connect," Catherine Chen, who leads Binance VIP and Institutional, told CNBC. "This is really us answering their demand."

The move flips the script a bit. Big banks have been adding crypto services to attract wealthy clients, and now one of crypto's largest players is offering those clients a menu of strategies that span more than just digital assets.

How Capital Connect is set up

Capital Connect sits on Binance's Portfolio Account system, which handles items like management and performance fees along with risk metrics. Trading teams design and run the strategies themselves. Chen said the setup mirrors the SMA model long used in conventional finance, letting investors plug into a manager's strategy without requiring the creation of a new fund.

According to Binance, qualified investors zero in on managers' track records and standardized performance data. On the other side, many trading teams prefer to spend their time on research and building strategies rather than on fund administration and day-to-day operations.

Strategy mix and the expanding menu

Capital Connect started out with crypto-only approaches. Since then, more managers have begun weaving in instruments from traditional markets. The roster spans traditional asset managers and crypto-native quant shops, and many of them straddle both worlds.

Binance itself has been adding products tied to traditional assets, including 24/7 perpetual futures linked to both pre-IPO names and publicly traded companies.

What this could mean for your money

If you qualify under the financial criteria, this opens a pathway to professional strategies without requiring managers to create separate funds. The catalog is growing fast and now includes approaches that tap both digital and traditional markets, giving wealthy investors more ways to diversify and compare standardized performance data in one place.
