Amazon's B2B Marketplace Approaching $60 Billion Annual Sales

Published Jul 22, 2026
Share:
Summary:
  • Amazon Business is projected to move roughly $60 billion worth of goods annually, a 71% increase compared to 2023.
  • Since early 2026, 1.8 million additional accounts have been created, bringing the overall customer base past 11 million.
  • The client list includes Nasdaq Inc., Amazon's internal operations, and UC San Diego.

A Quiet Giant Inside Amazon

Most people think of Amazon as the place they buy books, batteries, or birthday gifts. But there is a whole other side of the company that sells to businesses, and it is getting a lot bigger than anyone probably realized.

That figure was reached in the second quarter of 2026, Amazon said in a statement.

The service originated in 2012 as Amazon Supply, then was relaunched under the Amazon Business name three years after. It took a while to find its footing. But the latest numbers suggest it has found plenty of footing now.

How Amazon Convinced Companies to Ditch Their Old Suppliers

The early growth came from a pretty simple play. A major driver of early growth was businesses shifting from personal or group accounts to corporate accounts, attracted by features like bulk ordering and discounts. That got a lot of people in the door.

But the real acceleration happened when Amazon started winning over big organizations. They added features that matter to large buyers: custom quotes and bulk delivery. When you run a university or a financial exchange, you do not want to place many separate orders for the same box of cables. You want one order, a negotiated price, and a truck that shows up on schedule.

What Amazon Hasn't Told Us Yet

Here is the one big number Amazon has not shared: how much profit the business sales unit actually makes. That leaves analysts guessing whether the $60 billion in sales is translating into real earnings or just a lot of revenue with thin margins.

Amazon recently added AI tools to the platform, including a chatbot and software that highlights unusual purchases to flag potential mistakes. That kind of automation could help control costs and make the service more efficient over time.

The bottom line: Amazon built a business-to-business marketplace that is on track to sell $60 billion in merchandise over a full year, inside a company known for selling to consumers. It took more than a decade, but the growth has accelerated sharply in the last few years.

What It Means for Your Portfolio

For investors, this is a reminder that Amazon is a lot more than e-commerce and cloud computing. The business marketplace sits somewhere in between - and it is growing faster than both of those older segments in percentage terms.

If that trend continues, the sales number could push past higher figures in a few years. Even a modest profit margin on that kind of revenue would add a meaningful chunk to Amazon's overall earnings.

The challenge for investors is that you cannot see the profit line yet. That makes it harder to value this piece of the business. Organizations do not sign up in droves unless they are getting real value.

For anyone holding Amazon stock, this is a growth engine worth watching. For anyone who does not own it, it is one more reason to understand just how wide the company's moat really is.
