Chinese Memory Chip Producer CXMT Achieves Explosive Revenue Growth

Summary:
  • CXMT's H1 revenue reached 150.3 billion yuan ($22.4 billion), marking a dramatic increase from previous periods
  • The firm transformed its financial position from loss to 77.6 billion yuan in net profit
  • Its recent public listing secured 66.6 billion yuan, ranking as China's second-biggest IPO this year

From Red Ink to Record Profits

China's Yangtze Memory Technologies (CXMT) just posted the kind of turnaround that makes investors take notice. The memory chip specialist swung from losses to 77.6 billion yuan in net profit over the past six months, with revenue hitting levels that significantly exceeded its entire 2025 performance.

The surge comes as global tech firms scramble for memory chips, with shortages driving up prices. CXMT appears well positioned to benefit, having completed China's second-largest initial public offering this year. The 66.6 billion yuan raise gave it the firepower to invest in next-generation products while rivals pull back.

Climbing the Global Ranks

CXMT's growth has pushed it to fourth place among worldwide DRAM producers - the chips that help devices multitask by temporarily storing active data. Its market value recently overtook Tencent to become China's most valuable company, with investors valuing it at ten times what they expect it to earn by 2027.

Those bullish forecasts assume net income could reach 361 billion yuan that year. The company is backing the bet with heavy research spending, having boosted its development budget by 87% to 6.86 billion yuan. Its engineering team grew 61% to about 7,500 staff, many working on its new LPDDR6 memory now being tested with clients.

The bottom line: CXMT has emerged as China's leading domestic alternative to global semiconductor suppliers, showcasing the nation's push for technological self-reliance. Founder Zhu Yiming is also developing high-bandwidth memory, the advanced semiconductor used in AI accelerators.

Risks and Rewards Ahead

Not everything is smooth sailing. The U.S. Defense Department recently added CXMT to its blacklist over national security concerns, though the company says the move has not affected operations. Meanwhile, investors are paying a premium for growth, with that ten-times-earnings multiple suggesting much of the good news may already be priced in.

For tech investors, the question is whether CXMT can sustain this momentum as memory markets eventually cool. But with six-month sales already blowing past full-year expectations, the company has shown it can capitalize when demand runs hot - and your portfolio might want to take notice.
