Danske Bank Lifts Finland's 2027 Growth Outlook on Google's €13B AI Push

Published Sep 11, 2026

Summary:
  • Danske Bank A/S now sees Finland's economy growing 2.1% in 2027 after Google announced a massive AI infrastructure plan there.
  • The €13 billion ($15.1 billion) commitment by Alphabet Inc.'s Google comes alongside a prior Danske forecast of 1.4%, and compares with a 1.3% Bloomberg median made before the news.
  • The bank says construction will count toward GDP and be hefty, but flags unknowns on scope and timing.

Investment and the new forecast

A tech giant's checkbook just nudged a country's outlook. After Alphabet's Google said it will invest €13 billion ($15.1 billion) in AI infrastructure in Finland, Danske Bank raised its 2027 GDP forecast to 2.1%. That is up from 1.4% previously, and above a 1.3% median of Bloomberg estimates compiled before Google's plan surfaced. If it lands as projected, that pace would be Finland's quickest in six years.

What the economist is watching

In a Friday note to clients, Danske Bank economist Olavi Kaskisaari called the plan "one of the largest industrial investments ever recorded in Finland." He also said the portion tied to building activity should be substantial, while spending on data processing capacity does not show up in Finland's GDP figures.

What could complicate the boost

Danske also cautioned that it is not yet clear how the outlay will split between construction and IT hardware, and it said Google's stated timetable appears tight. That mix and the schedule matter because only the building work would directly feed into Finland's GDP.

The takeaway for your portfolio

If Finland does hit a six-year speed record, it signals stronger local demand and potentially more regional spillovers. The big swing factor is how much of that €13 billion turns into shovels in the ground versus server racks.
