Ecuador's President Says His Net Worth More Than Doubled After Home Revaluation

Published Sep 1, 2026
Share:
Summary:
  • President Daniel Noboa reported a personal net worth of $3.6 million after a jump in his home's appraised value.
  • His administration briefly blocked access to his asset filings, then posted them Tuesday after public interest and criticism.
  • Most of his declared wealth is tied to a beachfront home in Olón that was valued at $3.4 million in 2026, up from $1.5 million in 2025.

What Noboa disclosed

Ecuador's President Daniel Noboa, heir to one of the country's largest fortunes, put his personal net worth at $3.6 million in disclosures released Tuesday. He took office in 2023 and had been submitting asset statements since winning a legislative seat two years earlier. His family's business is a wide-ranging conglomerate with major exposure to the banana industry, a pillar of Ecuador's economy.

Where the money is

Most of Noboa's reported wealth is tied to his registered residence, a beachfront property whose value rose sharply from 2025 to 2026. The building itself - a 450 square meter (4,844 square foot) house facing the Pacific in Olón, Santa Elena province - was declared at $3.4 million in 2026, up from $1.5 million the prior year.

The family, the filing pause and reaction

Noboa's administration recently restricted access to both his latest declaration and prior filings, drawing backlash after Bloomberg News flagged the change last week. The president's office said on X it was releasing the newest disclosures "given the interest they had generated." It also drew a line between his finances and the broader family fortune tied to his father, Alvaro Noboa, noting: "The family's estate belongs to the family and isn't a part of the president's personal estate." Keeping assets public is the norm in the Americas, where presidents and other officials regularly report their wealth, including US President Donald Trump. In Ecuador, declaring personal assets is a legal requirement for civil servants.

Why this matters for your portfolio

This disclosure shows where Noboa's reported wealth sits right now and how it moved between 2025 and 2026 - heavily concentrated in real estate, with a smaller slice in shares and cash. If you follow policy risk, it is a reminder that leaders' finances are scrutinized and, in Ecuador's case, must be made public by law.
