Enbridge Taps Michele Harradence to Succeed Greg Ebel as CEO

Published Sep 8, 2026

Summary:
  • Michele Harradence - currently in charge of the gas distribution and storage unit - was appointed by Enbridge Inc. as the next chief executive officer.
  • Greg Ebel will retire at the end of 2026 after more than three years leading the Calgary-based company since joining in 2017.
  • On its second-quarter call, Enbridge said it aims to move forward on C$20 billion of projects before the end of next year, and noted it has already deployed C$9 billion in 2026.

The leadership change

Enbridge picked Michele Harradence to step into the CEO role, elevating her from her post overseeing the company's gas distribution and storage unit. The move was announced Tuesday. Greg Ebel plans to retire at the end of 2026, closing out a run of more than three years in the top job following his 2017 arrival.

As the biggest pipeline operator in North America, Enbridge also sits as Canada's sixth-most valuable publicly listed company. Harradence's promotion puts her instantly among the country's most prominent female executives. Right now, only one top-20 Canadian public company is led by a woman: Canadian National Railway Co.'s Tracy Robinson.

What Ebel built and what comes next

In 2023, under Ebel, Enbridge agreed to buy three Dominion Energy Inc. utilities for about $9.4 billion, a transaction that made the company the largest natural gas provider in North America.

After a stint at Shell Plc, Harradence came to Enbridge in 2014 and has overseen the gas utilities since 2022.

The competitive backdrop and why it matters

Canada's government-owned Trans Mountain Corp. plans a crude line expansion to Vancouver and the addition of a one-million-barrel-per-day route to the Pacific Coast in the coming years, a combination that could pose a challenge to Enbridge's Mainline System. By mid-day in New York, Enbridge shares had barely moved.

For your wallet, this is the setup to watch: a new CEO inheriting a pipeline of projects and a bigger natural gas footprint, with fresh competition lining up on crude. That mix can influence dividend sustainability, the pace of capital spending and how predictable future cash flows feel to everyday investors.

In uncertain times, a thoughtful plan can keep your money on a steady path. Our CEO Jaspreet Singh is hosting a FREE live investor workshop, How to Profit From A Dollar That's Losing its Value, on September 29th. Sign up free to join him live.
