Forus pockets $150 million, putting its valuation at $3 billion, as it uses AI to hasten prescription fulfillment

Summary:
  • The healthcare automation startup closed a $150 million Series C on a $3 billion valuation, led by Bain Capital Ventures.
  • Founded in 2023, Forus uses AI and a massive case dataset to move patients from prescription to pickup faster by handling insurance, financial aid and pharmacy steps.
  • After saying in May it had raised more than $160 million, the latest round pushes total funding above $300 million; providers in all 50 states use the platform.

What happened

Forus said Tuesday it secured a $150 million Series C, setting the company's valuation at $3 billion. Bain Capital Ventures, an early backer, led the round. Accel, Thrive Capital, General Catalyst, Redpoint Ventures, BoxGroup and Pear VC also joined. The company previously disclosed in May that it had raised more than $160 million; adding this new capital brings cumulative financing to over $300 million.

How Forus works

Launched in 2023, Forus applies artificial intelligence to shorten the gap between a doctor writing a prescription and a patient actually getting the medication. The system tackles the unglamorous bottlenecks - sorting out insurance, securing financial assistance and coordinating with pharmacies - and it learns from millions of prior cases to speed things along. The service is free for both providers and patients, and the company says clinicians in every US state use it.

Why investors are circling

"This is one of the fastest growing companies across the entire Bain Capital Ventures portfolio," said Bain Capital partner Kevin Zhang, who also argued, "I think it's critically important that we have this network that works with insurance, doctors, pharma companies and patients to get everybody access to the care they need." He also said AI will accelerate the development of new treatments over the coming years. Forus's CEO Sahir Jaggi called the fresh financing "increased conviction from our existing investors and partners in the model, in our traction and how fast we're growing," noting that the money will go toward expanding the company's technology to meet rising demand. Beyond smoothing out patient access, the company also supplies life science and biopharma clients with insights on where patients and clinicians hit snags and how treatments perform.

The bigger picture for your wallet

Money is pouring into companies that accelerate therapy starts, exemplified by Latent's $80 million round in March and Courier Health's $50 million raise in April. If AI can remove friction from drug access and inform pharma on what is or is not working, the payoff could show up as faster adoption of new therapies and happier providers. For everyday investors, the signal is simple: healthcare AI is not a niche story anymore, it is pulling real dollars because it promises real efficiency.
