Summary:
  • Macquarie Asset Management is in advanced negotiations to buy SI Solutions from MidOcean Partners.
  • At the discussed price, SI Solutions would be pegged at roughly $600 million with debt included, and an announcement could come as soon as Thursday.
  • UniSuper - among Australia's biggest pension funds - is joining the co-investor lineup; all parties declined to comment.

What's on the table

Macquarie Asset Management is working toward a takeover of SI Solutions from MidOcean Partners, said people with knowledge of the matter who requested anonymity because the discussions are confidential. Those people said the sides have not reached a final agreement and the talks could still fall apart. The price under discussion implies a valuation of roughly $600 million including debt, and a deal could be unveiled as early as Thursday if the parties close the gap.

Who's involved and what SI does

Macquarie is lining up co-investors that include UniSuper, one of Australia's biggest pension funds. Representatives for Macquarie, SI Solutions, MidOcean, and UniSuper said they had nothing to say. SI Solutions was acquired by MidOcean in 2024.

Based in Huntersville, North Carolina, SI Solutions provides the behind-the-scenes services that keep energy infrastructure running, including inspections, engineering and safety monitoring for utilities, as well as power producers and pipeline companies, among other clients.

Why this play now

Investors such as Macquarie have been gravitating toward companies connected to energy infrastructure as electricity demand rises to support AI applications. More power-hungry data centers means more attention on the grid and the services that keep it safe and reliable.

What it could mean for your wallet

If this deal lands, it is another signal that real money is flowing toward the picks-and-shovels of the energy system, not just headline power producers. For everyday investors, it highlights how growth tied to AI can show up in less flashy corners of the market, like maintenance and monitoring businesses that benefit as usage scales.
