Noble Supply & Logistics Files Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Published Aug 31, 2026

Summary:
  • Boston-based Noble Supply & Logistics filed for Chapter 11 on Sunday and said it will consider options that include selling the business.
  • The company cited federal cutbacks, the late-2025 shutdown, debt-funded acquisitions, and a DLA contract now ending in June 2026.
  • Filings list $255.6 million owed to lenders, roughly $250 million owed to vendors, $36.7 million for unsecured bondholders, and a workforce of 294 active staff as of July 24.

What happened

Noble Supply & Logistics, a Boston-area defense contractor, entered Chapter 11 on Sunday and said in a Monday announcement that it will explore alternatives, including a sale. Chief Executive Officer Tom Noble said the company could not overcome "the significant headwinds it has faced over the last several months." In court papers, the firm said it will prepare to liquidate if no buyer or rescue emerges.

The case will be financed using funds reserved as collateral for the lenders pursuant to an agreement that affords about 75 days to conduct a sale process. Any sale or wind-down will require approval from US Bankruptcy Judge Craig Goldblatt after creditors have a chance to object.

Why management says this happened

Noble pointed to federal spending cutbacks, including the late-2025 government shutdown when customers stopped ordering and paying. Chief Transformation Officer Robert Albergotti said the company borrowed in 2021 to acquire two businesses and in 2022 won a 10-year, $1.2 billion Defense Logistics Agency deal to furnish aerospace equipment for the US military. By early 2024, the contract's large upfront costs and slower-than-expected payments had strained liquidity.

Attempts to refinance or raise fresh capital "ultimately failed to close due to concerns over anticipated levels of future defense spending by the federal government, among other challenges," Albergotti said. According to the company, federal officials told Noble toward the end of 2024 that the DLA contract would not be renewed in June 2026, effectively capping it at four years and leaving the company with about $70 million in inventory and other obligations. Noble also plans to pursue several disputes tied to the contract, including a claim that it is owed about $86 million.

What it means for your portfolio

Court papers indicate debts of $255.6 million to lenders, about $250 million payable to vendors, plus $36.7 million owed to unsecured bondholders. As of July 24, Noble's headcount stood at 294 active employees. The firm provides nonlethal gear and services for the US military as well as law-enforcement groups like the FBI and state police. Any sale or liquidation outcome will be decided by Judge Goldblatt after creditor input.
