Trump says he could tap up to $500 million from MAGA Inc. for final midterm push

Published Sep 4, 2026

Summary:
  • With roughly two months until November's midterms, President Donald Trump said he intends to deploy up to $500 million from his political network to support Republican candidates.
  • Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump said his super PAC was "close to a billion" and that he was "allocating probably four or $500 million," adding, "We're going to spend a lot of money because we don't want to lose our country."
  • As of July 31, MAGA Inc. said it had $403.45 million in cash, a total the Associated Press says tops the cash on hand at any major party committee.

What Trump put on the table

In a conversation with reporters at the White House, Trump said, "I think I have like close to a billion dollars in the super PAC, and I'm allocating probably four or $500 million." He added, "We're going to spend a lot of money because we don't want to lose our country," and later, "I'm going to spend whatever amount of money necessary to try and help us." He also said, "This is my money that I control."

Trump said he plans to personally decide where support goes as November nears and expects there will still be funds left after Election Day that could be used in 2028.

The PAC's bankroll and pace so far

MAGA Inc.'s latest filing shows $403.45 million available as of July 31, which is well below the "close to a billion dollars" Trump described. Since the start of 2025, the group has spent about $21 million, including $1.7 million on independent expenditures.

Even so, per the Associated Press, the PAC's pile exceeds the cash on hand at any major party committee. The group has started to show up in battlegrounds, such as paying for an event in Michigan this week headlined by Vice President JD Vance, but it has not yet rolled out anything near the hundreds of millions Trump floated.

Where the money might flow and the travel schedule

Republicans in tight House and Senate contests have been waiting for MAGA Inc. to step up, and some GOP strategists had reportedly worried the hefty war chest might sit untouched. Trump said Friday, "I'm going to help a lot of the congressmen and senators that need help." Earlier in the week he said he would make "a lot of stops" to boost Republican House and Senate contenders and promised a trip to Alaska to back Sen. Dan Sullivan.

The rules that shape how it can be spent

Its non-contribution account can take unlimited donations and fund independent efforts that support or oppose candidates, but those dollars cannot be given straight to campaigns. Under federal regulations, MAGA Inc. does not have to zero out its balance this cycle, so it can keep cash for future elections or other permitted political activity.
