TSMC Sets August Sales Record as AI Tailwind Keeps Blowing

Published Sep 10, 2026
Share:
Summary:
  • August revenue hit NT$514.8 billion ($16.35 billion), up 53.3% year over year and 10.1% from July.
  • Monthly sales have climbed four months in a row, with AI demand still described as "extremely robust."
  • TSMC plans to roll out ASML's High NA gear in large scale production for advanced nodes starting in 2030.

Record month and recent trend

TSMC just notched its highest monthly revenue ever, pulling in NT$514.8 billion ($16.35 billion) in August. That is a 53.3% jump from a year earlier and 10.1% above July, marking the fourth straight month of gains. The lift comes as appetite for AI application chips stays strong.

What the company said and its near-term outlook

On its July second quarter call, the company said AI demand/) remained "extremely robust." TSMC reported second quarter profit rose more than 77% from a year earlier and projected third quarter revenue in a range of $44.6 billion to $45.8 billion.

Market position and industry backdrop

TrendForce said Wednesday that TSMC dominated the foundry market in the second quarter with a 72.5% share. The researcher said orders for AI server processors kept TSMC's 5, 4, and 3 nanometer lines fully booked during the period. Samsung Foundry placed second with 5.9%, while China's SMIC had 5.4%. The firm also noted the top 10 foundries posted an all-time high of nearly $53.49 billion in second-quarter sales, as constrained capacity for cutting-edge nodes serving AI and high performance computing boosted results.

Technology push with ASML and what it means for your wallet

TSMC and ASML announced a joint effort this week to speed the shift to next gen chipmaking. TSMC said it aims to introduce ASML's High NA technology into volume fab operations for advanced nodes beginning in 2030, and expects adoption to rise as AI workloads call for more complex transistor designs. TSMC's stock slipped 0.61% on Thursday before the revenue numbers were released. For everyday investors, the takeaway is simple: AI is not just a buzzword in earnings calls, it is shaping capacity, timelines, and who leads the pack in chips.
