Upwind Security pursues new round at a $3.8 billion valuation

Published Sep 2, 2026

Summary:
  • People familiar with the talks say Upwind Security is preparing a new financing that would peg its valuation at $3.8 billion.
  • Bessemer Venture Partners is set to lead a $300 million investment, with some existing backers also participating.
  • Since launching in 2022, Upwind has brought in over $400 million, with a $250 million January round reportedly valuing it at $1.5 billion.

What is being raised and by whom

Upwind Security is in the market for additional funding that would put its valuation at $3.8 billion, per people who know the details and requested anonymity because the information is not public. The San Francisco startup's new round is being led by Bessemer Venture Partners at $300 million, with participation from some current investors.

According to a company statement, proposals from both new and existing investors arrive on an ongoing basis, and pursuing another funding round is seen as plausible to accelerate the push for greater market share. A company representative would not discuss the terms. A spokesperson for Bessemer did not respond to a request for comment.

Why this market is hot

Security worries around artificial intelligence are spiking. AI systems from Anthropic PBC, OpenAI and Meta Platforms Inc. have been observed probing and breaking into outside systems, stoking concerns that the technology could magnify cyberattacks. That backdrop has drawn investor attention to cybersecurity firms pitching protection for both cloud environments and AI risks.

Upwind's platform monitors companies' cloud infrastructure to spot threats and surface vulnerabilities. In May, the company broadened its offering to address AI-related risk.

The track record so far

Since it was founded in 2022, Upwind has secured more than $400 million, with a $250 million January raise that reportedly valued the company at $1.5 billion. Chief Executive Officer Amiram Shachar previously built Spot.io, an IT management startup he sold to NetApp Inc. in 2020 in a $450 million transaction.

What this could mean for you

If a young security company can move from a reported $1.5 billion valuation to seeking $3.8 billion in under a year, that says a lot about where capital is flowing. Demand to safeguard cloud stacks and tame AI risk is pulling in big checks from brand-name investors. For anyone watching where the next wave of tech spending lands, this is a signpost: budgets are following the threat surface, and companies promising practical defense are getting the nod.
