Summary:

  • CENTCOM reported two tankers were disabled near Kharg Island and said the third was taken out in the Gulf of Oman, detailing the action in a Saturday post on X.
  • Crews were directed to abandon ship before the strikes; Admiral Brad Cooper wrote, "Let the message to the IRGC be clear: If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost - taking out three of yours."

What happened

US Central Command laid out the timeline and locations in an update on X on Saturday, adding that the crews were told to leave their vessels before the attacks.

Where the tankers were hit

According to CENTCOM, two of the tankers were left unable to operate near Kharg Island, and the third vessel was taken out in the Gulf of Oman. Admiral Brad Cooper, the commander of Central Command, underscored the message in his post with a blunt warning to the IRGC.

Why this matters for your wallet

Oil disruptions rarely stay "over there." Tankers taken off the water and missiles flying tend to keep a floor under fuel costs. Higher prices at the pump filter into everything from flights to freight, which is why voters are noticing. If headlines like these keep coming, expect energy to stay a swing factor in both your monthly budget and the political season.
